Welfare – Medical
Letters referring to minor illnesses, absences etc. should be addressed to the class teacher who is, in general, responsible for the pastoral care of his/her pupils.
It is possible for certain prescribed medicines to be administered at school. This must be done by arrangement with the Head Teacher and all medication should be clearly named and held in the school office for safety.
If you wish to discuss a specific point or problem with your child's class teacher, it is preferable to make an appointment to see the teacher after school.
The Head Teacher is always willing to discuss any problems that give cause for concern, or any matter which may arise which might affect your child's social or educational welfare or development.
Parents are requested not to drive through the school gates before 9.30am and between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on any school day. The only exceptions would be by prior agreement with the Head Teacher. Our concern is the safety of all your children so your assistance in this matter is appreciated.
Accidents & Illness
If your child is unwell we will make every effort to contact you. It is very important that we have up-to-date home/work telephone numbers or other contact numbers. Until we have contacted you, we will take any action required in the interests of the child. If your child is ill before school begins, please do not send them to school on that day.
Although we will always care for children who become ill at school, any necessary medical treatment or administering of medicines will be carried out in accordance with our School Medication Policy, which has been drawn up with reference to DfEE Circular 14/96 "Supporting Pupils with Medical Needs in School", and KCC Supplementary Guidance 1998. Parents naturally have responsibility for the care of their children, and from time to time may need to discuss medical matters with the head teacher.
We have trained first aiders on our school staff and in the event of an accident, appropriate first aid will be given. In the case of more serious accidents we will contact you as soon as possible. Every parent will be asked to sign an agreement form giving permission for appropriate medical emergency treatment to be arranged in the event of an extreme emergency or parents not available or contactable.
If your child suffers a blow to the head, you will always be notified.
The following health checks will be carried out during your child's infant and junior years and you will only be notified should there be any problems.
Rubella Vaccination
The school Nurse no longer administers rubella vaccination to Year 6 girls so parents would need to make their own arrangements with their General Practitioner.
Head Infestation
Checks on head infestation are no longer carried out by the Health Authority. The responsibility lays with the parent to report to the Head Teacher any case of infestation and to keep the child away from school until treatment has been successful. Information and help on this subject may be obtained from the school nurse or from the clinics listed below:
